GoToPDF

Privacy Policy

Last updated: August 11, 2026

GoToPDF ("we", "the site") is a free document-to-PDF conversion tool. This policy explains what happens to your files and what data is collected when you visit.

Your files are never uploaded

GoToPDF converts files entirely inside your web browser using JavaScript. When you drop in a PDF, Word document, spreadsheet, CSV, text file, or image — in either direction — it is read and converted on your own device. At no point is the file sent to our servers or any third party — we don't operate a backend that receives your documents, so we have no ability to view, store, or share their contents. Closing the tab or refreshing the page discards everything.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, our hosting provider and analytics tools may automatically log standard technical information when you visit, such as:

This information is used in aggregate to understand site usage and diagnose problems, not to identify individuals.

Analytics

GoToPDF uses Firebase Analytics (a Google product, built on Google Analytics) to understand how the site is used — page views, and anonymous usage counters like which file type was converted and whether a conversion succeeded or failed. These events carry a file extension (e.g. "docx") at most, never a file name, file content, or anything derived from what's inside a file, since that data never leaves your browser in the first place. See Google's practices at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.

Cookies and advertising

GoToPDF is supported by advertising, served through Google AdSense. Google and its advertising partners may set cookies or use similar technologies (such as device identifiers) to serve ads based on your visits to this and other websites, and to measure ad performance. Firebase Analytics may set similar cookies/identifiers to distinguish visits. You can learn more about how Google uses data at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites, and manage ad personalization at adssettings.google.com.

We also use a small amount of local storage (not a cookie) in your own browser to remember your cookie-notice choice and light/dark theme preference. This never leaves your device.

Third-party libraries

The conversion engine is built on open-source libraries (including jsPDF, SheetJS, Mammoth.js, html2canvas, JSZip, PDF.js, and docx.js) that run locally in your browser. These libraries do not transmit your file data anywhere as part of their normal operation on this site. The site itself is hosted on Firebase Hosting, and separately loads the Firebase Analytics SDK described above — neither is involved in the conversion process.

Children's privacy

GoToPDF is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
